14. What controversies exist regarding the care and repair of facial lacerations?

There is little controversy about the care and repair of facial lacerations. Attention to basic principles of wound care usually produces a satisfactory scar. Because of the cosmetic considerations in facial trauma, primary repair in some instances is undertaken for the sake of appearance despite the risk of infection that would be deemed unacceptable in other areas of the body.
